Review: Baker Days Cake

An amazing day arrived in my life, I had a Twitter notification from a company called Bakerdays asking me if I'd like to review a cake.

I've reviewed a waterproof kids suit, a book and a potty so far!

So I signed up IMMEDIATELY!

Typically, all the birthdays in the world were last week. So I asked if I could have a cake with a Union Jack on it with the words 'just because I love you' on it, for the Hubby. (I need to buy a whole new wardrobe soon so best sweeten him up whilst I can!)

The cake arrived today, I do my Slimming World weigh in on a Thursday morning, so I have my naughty days on a Thursday! So that was perfectly timed.

So I opened the box and found this:

I was instantly impressed! A gorgeous tin, and a thoughtfully added pack with 3 balloons, a party hooter and some candles. Brilliant idea!

Attached to the plastic round the cake were the following instructions:

I'm not entirely sure that instruction number 3 was required! I was desperate to get at it

Finally the cake itself:

Perfect!

So we tucked in. It comes across as a suprisingly small cake, we got 5 portions out of it, 2 each for me and the Hubby and 1 portion for the boy.

As I tucked in I knew the main thing for me would be the icing. I have a massive issue with icing. I greedily get the piece with the most icing on, take a big bite....and feel sick. Icing is so rich, sweet and thick, that it puts me off eating the cake.

Not on this one. It is a very thin layer of icing, utterly perfect!

The cake itself was a ginger sponge cake. Which was amazing, light, fluffy and moist and with the cake only being about an inch deep, wasn't too much! So whereas usually I'd be left rolling around feeling sick after having a slice of cake, I was left feeling pleasantly full.

So to summarise. A perfectly made cake, beautifully packaged, with very thoughtful extras inside.

I will look to this company when I require a special occasion cake.
