My Beautiful Story

Seeing the success I had with the Alternative Nursery Rhyme post, I remembered I had written this back in 2007 and thought I would share it, get a brew, put your feet up and enjoy the magic!

Chapter 1

Once upon a time in a magical kingdom far far away there was a beautiful young lady called Laguna, who lived in the kingdom of Nenthral with her father Quentin.
One day Laguna was bored; ‘Daddy?' she asked ' I'm bored, how can I amuse myself when we have no such things as Xboxes or psps?’
'My child that's simple' he replied ' leave the house turn left, follow the windy road and see what wonders you encounter along the way'
Laguna pondered this and decided it was the only thing she could do, so she packed some lunch in a red checked bag, tied it a stick like the cliché that she will become and set off on her merry way.
After walking for half an hour admiring the sky, the trees, the grass and breathing in the sweet scent of summer she came to a fork in the road.
'My my my' She said' what an odd place to put a fork'
'Oi' said the fork 'I'm here for a reason, I help people decide which way they want to go!'
'But there's no other path to take!'
'That's what I want you to think, you see not many people take the time out to sit and talk to a piece of cutlery, and by doing so you have unleashed my magic'
The fork started to quiver and glowed blue, and out of nowhere a path laid itself and joined onto the path where she was standing.
'But where does it lead to?' Laguna gasped
'Err, actually I haven't got a clue' Said the fork, looking rather puzzled.
'Why don't I take you with me then I’ll have a friend to take with me along the way, I’m starting to feel awfully alone'
'Would you really?!' Said the fork ' that would be lovely of you'
So Laguna picked up the fork and put him into her pocket and she took a deep breath and stepped onto the magic path.
'So Mr. Fork, do you have a name?' asked Laguna
'Actually no I don't' said the fork looking somewhat saddened.
'Well' Said Laguna 'My name's Laguna and we shall call you Brett'
'Brett?' said the fork 'Yeah ok I like it, from now on I shall be known as Brett!
So off Brett and Laguna went along the long winding road towards the mist in the distance......

Chapter 2

So as Brett and Laguna made their way into the misty distance, Laguna’s tummy rumbled loudly and she insisted to Brett that they sat down to eat.
'Do forks actually eat?' asked Laguna
'sort of' answered Brett ' we consume through our skin when we're used for meals, so should you choose to eat your lunch by using me instead of my brother there then we shall both be well fed'
So they both tucked into some grub.
After eating Laguna laid down for a little snooze, Brett, bored decided to go for a wander about to see where they had come to rest. So off he set on his little forky legs for a wander about.
'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh' screamed Brett in surprise as a gigantic toad landed in front of him. 'Good grief you scared the prongs off of me!'
'Aaaaaaaaaaargh' screamed the toad 'a talking fork! What is your name oh miracle of cutlery?'
'My name Sir Toad, is Brett, I have come along on a walk with my friend Laguna who is sleeping over yonder, pray tell what is your name?'
'My name' said the toad ' is Badger'
'Badger?! But you're clearly not a badger'
'Yes, however round here I am known as the master of disguise'
'So' asked Badger ' Where are you and your friend headed to?'
'We're just seeing where this path leads to, have you any idea what lies at the end of this path Badger?'
Badger pondered for a few minutes, 'no in all honesty I’ve not ventured that far, but now that you've mentioned it I’m very curious, would you mind awfully if I joined you on your walk Brett?'
'Shouldn't be a problem Badger, lets go introduce you to Laguna'
Laguna awoke by Brett poking her in the face, 'meeeerrrrgh' she moaned 'five more minutes' and she rolled over, ending up face to toady face with Badger.
'Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh' screamed Laguna ' what the frick is that hideous thing get it away from me Brett!'
'No no no Miss Laguna don't be concerned this is my friend Badger he wishes to travel with us'
'He can talk?'
'Well aye man course I can!' Said Badger
'Why are you called Badger, that's a silly name for a toad, you're named after a black and white furry mammal when you're clearly nothing like'
'Well why are you called Laguna miss, that's a silly name for a human, you're named after a car for goodness sake, was your dad a Renault fan?' Retorted Badger.
Seeing that Laguna was near tears, Brett stepped in ' Now now you two, just accept each other for who you are and lets get going and see how far we can get before nightfall'
Begrudgingly the three of them set off down the path once again towards
the misty distance...

Chapter 3

So as Laguna, Brett and Badger bimbled along the magical path to the misty distance they began chatting about their dreams, ambitions and their past, they discovered that Brett had once been part of a homely cutlery drawer along with his fork brothers and sisters, and his knife and spoon friends. However one day they had been taken out on a picnic, and sadly Brett had been left behind to rust and fend for himself. He'd been wandering around helplessly before happening upon a magic dandelion who was old and wise and in charge of the magical fork in the road. They got to chatting and the dandelion offered the job to Brett, who upon seeing no brighter future for himself decided to take the job.
Badger, had grown up as part of a large family. However his dad had had an ongoing affair with another toad from the other side of the pond and was exiled from the area. His mum had died of heartbreak and all his brothers and sisters had left the pond to find bigger and better things so he was left to amuse himself. Whereupon he discovered his ability to disguise himself, starting off attempting camouflage with leaves, grass and generally green and brown things, but with his confidence soaring as he hid from predators he learned to disguise himself as more colourful things like toadstools and pansies. He nicknamed himself Badger as he managed to disguise himself as one, snuck into a badger set, got lucky with the badger lady in there and upon discovering a few days later that she was up the duff, he decided to scarper before the mutants (That would only be known as Todgers) could be born and he could be held responsible for the hybrid.
Laguna didn't have a lot to say when it came to her turn, she'd grown up as an only child of an organ grinder. She'd been found by the river bank by him when she was a baby, with no note with her he decided to take her into his life. ‘I wish I had more adventures like you two' sighed Laguna
‘'Well lets have one now' exclaimed Badger 'What with the guard of the magic fork and the master of disguise and all the mist we're heading towards there can only be adventures to be had at the end of this winding path'
So the pace stepped up a notch as with a mission in mind they trotted down the path with the misty distance looming ever closer...

Chapter 4
As the misty distance loomed every closer the trio started to tire.
'Can we please rest a while' asked Brett
'Yeah' sighed Laguna 'why not'
So they wandered off the path and found a nice patch of grass by the stream where they sat themselves down.
'I'm thirsty, I shall drink from this stream, it looks clean enough' stated Laguna as she wandered to the side of the stream, as she knelt down she looked into the crystal clear water, and noticed that it had a pink tinge, she tentatively scooped some water into her hands and drank. 'Mmmm, this water is
lovely, it tastes almost sweet, you must come and try it' she shouted to Brett and Badger.
Brett and Badger dutifully came and tried it and minutes later they were all drinking and splashing about in the stream. Suddenly overcome by laughter they laughed at the tiniest thing.
'I'm....I’m in some magical land, and my only companions are a talking toad that thinks he's a badger, and....and....a magical fork!' Laguna spluttered with laughter, and both Badger and Brett found this highly amusing and joined in till tears streamed down their faces.
'I'm extraordinarily tired' mused Laguna ' I think I’ll just rest a little' she lay down her head on the soft grass and was shortly joined by Brett and Badger; soon they were all sleeping deeply under the darkening sky.
Hours later, Laguna awoke 'where am I?' she thought to herself. Memories of her day’s adventures came rushing back and she sat up with a start. As she looked around her she realised she was in some darkened room with a stone floor and no windows. She heard a weeping noise to her left and turned to find out who the noise had come from. It was too dark to see, but she could just to say make out a figure in the corner of the room, so she tried to crawl closer. 'Ouch' cried Laguna, as she realised her ankle was caught. She felt to see what her ankle was caught on and she felt the roughness of a chain round her ankle. In her alarm she cried out 'help' and again from the darkness the sobbing began
again and a very deep quivery voice somebody spoke from the darkness.
'it's no good crying out, there's no one out there to help us, we've been left'
'Left where?' Laguna asked
‘we’re in the dungeon of castle Montrantanol, the king was displeased that you entered thee kingdom through the human gateway. Only humans who have been invited by royal appointment can enter the kingdom, the rest of us have to come through the check in near Redrhoten, however I happened upon the magical fork and I too came this way, I have been here for 5 years now'
'So he kidnapped us!?' exclaimed Laguna ' Where are Badger and Brett?'
'If you are referring to your companions, they were taken elsewhere, neither of them was a Badger though
'So who are you?'
'I my dear, I am Frescinal, I am a night elf, we live in the human world, in the darkest corners of the darkest room that’s where you'll find us, we have the power to make light and the power to take it away'
'can you make it light in here then please' asked Laguna 'it's bloody dark and want to see where we are'
Frescinal went quiet for a moment, and then the room filled with a bright green glow, Laguna blinked and looked around her. She was in a small square room, with high brick walls and a stone floor, no windows to cast any light in and a door was set about 6 foot up from the floor, with no ladder or steps to it.
Feeling overwhelmed Laguna let herself succumb to the tiredness she felt and fell into a haunted sleep...
