Mummy Tag

I've been tagged by the lovely @messedupmumblog in a mummy tag meme. It's so us blogging mums can find out more about each other by answering a few simple questions about ourselves. So here goes....

1.  Are you a SAHM or a working mum?

I'm currently a SAHM. When pregnant I was determined to go back 45 hours a week after 3 months maternity, as I wanted my boy to have the best in life and that needed money. The moment he was in my arms I knew that wouldn't happen. After 9 months I returned working 6 hours one day a week, and did that for a year. However a new manager started messing about with my hours, and trying to get me to do more, or different days that I couldn't do. I hate feeling like I'm letting people down so the stress built up until I handed my notice in with full support from my Hubby to become a full time mum until T started school full time, then I would return to work. T has currently started his 15 hours, I did look for a job to fit round those hours, and have decided to train as a Classroom Assistant come September, with the intention of qualifying and starting work properly in September 2015. I am currently on a voluntary school placement 6 hours a week and I love it!

2. Would you have it any other way?

No. I love being at home. I love every precious minute I get to spend with T. I love teaching him, playing games with him and watching him progress every day. If I had to complain it would be that I wanted to keep him home till he started reception. But Hubby fairly pointed out that he needed to socialise and learn about how to behave at school. So he does his 15 hours, and to be fair, he loves it.

3. Do you co-sleep?

No. The first 2/3 weeks T was here, I slept with him on my chest as he wouldn't settle on his back, he was then diagnosed with reflux, we took the risk to put him to sleep on his front and he slept on his own since then. He has since slept with us only once and Hubby and I had such an awful nights sleep it'll never bloody happen again! I slept with T on his floor when he had Norovirus a year or so ago.

4.What is your one must-have item for your child?

The only one thing T won't be without is his bedtime monkey. He's had it since the day he was born. Personally I love that he has a favourite teddy. I had one which always stayed near me till the day I left home!

5. How many kids do you plan on having?

Before I met my husband I wanted 2. When T was born I was quite happy with one (to be fair he was perfect, napped perfectly, slept through the night, rarely cried, always happy, very clever, the chances of getting that a second time?!) I did dither with wanting another, but then I was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome and 'strongly advised' not to have any more. Then the Daughter (my Step Daughter) fell pregnant and that made our minds up to not have any more, when we had one we could borrow and give back!

6. Date nights; how often do you have them?

Pahahahahahaaha. The last time we intentionally went out was June! We gave up on trying, you could guarantee that if we arranged to go out together T would get poorly. To be fair though we're quite happy at home with a takeaway watching TV together.

7. Your child's favourite TV show?

Just one?! Argh. He's always loved Curious George. So if I had to pick just one I think that would be it. I love George too!

8. Name one thing you bought before you had the baby and ended up not using?

Baby oil! Still have bottle we bought before he was born, and I never used the moses basket part of the pram!

9.What's your child's favourite food?

We have a battle with T and food. He's very fussy at what he eats. But thankfully he will eat a fairly balanced diet. His favourite 'food' is a picnic. Consisting of cheese, crisps, a yoghurt, a banana and some form of biscuit!

10.How many cars does your family have?

Just 1, a company works van. Thankfully upgraded to a 5 seater!

11.Weight gain; pre-pregnancy, during and post pregnancy?

Before I fell pregnant I was 14 stone 13. The day before I went into labour I was 14 stone 13! The next night I was 12 stone 11. I'm now 12 stone 4!

12. Dream holiday with kids?

If we had the money and the confidence that T would be ok, and that I could get over my phobia of people in costumes, the Disney Land. Or if we're dreaming Disney World cause they have a Curious George bit!

13. Dream holiday without the kids?

Anywhere. My Hubby loves his home comforts and doesn't like staying away, flying, driving too far, or boats! Lol.

14. How has your life changed since having kids?

For the better. I'm a much stronger, confident person now. I'm happier than I'd ever dreamed I could be. I was definitely meant to be a wife, a mum, and a step mum!

15. Finish the sentence, 'it makes my heart melt when...'

T throws his arms round my neck and says 'I just love you Mammy' or when I hear him playing in his room with his toys and the conversations they have!

16. Where do you shop for your kids?

Debenhams Blue Zoo (when there's a sale on) and George at Asda, or Primark. Not much point spending loads on clothes, he's a boy, we have a big garden, they just get muddy!

17. Favourite make up and skin care products?

I rarely wear make up. Just mascara unless I'm going out out. I use a face scrub (yellow Clearasil one) and a moisturiser a few times a week!

18. Huggies or Pampers?

Neither were great for us, we ended up using Tescos own brand!

19. Have you always wanted kids?

Always!

20. Best part about being a mum?

All of it! I love seeing how clever my boy is for his age, because of the time I put in teaching him. I love seeing him play independently and listening to how he plays and uses his imagination, I love his quirky sense of humour, I love the fact that he can make me cry laughing with some of the things he says, I love that he can infuriate me and make my heart melt a matter of seconds apart. I love the challenge of making him into a kind, loving, honest, understanding, intelligent, independent boy and hopefully he takes that with him when he becomes a man. I love the ups and the downs, because everything counts towards the rest of his life!

So the Mums I would like to get to know better, if they wish to join in are @childcareisfun,  @theboyandme and @girlgonecoastal, cause they are all fab and I'd love to get to know 'em better!

  1. Lovely idea!
You certainly sound like you've found your 'role' in life, not that being a mum defines solely who you are, but from your answers it's obvious you're happy and content with life as a mama!

  2. This is the first meme in ages that has even vaguely captured my imagination, I love the idea of it. I'll get onto it soon!
